But wait. If you really want your doors and windows to work wonderfully and give you years of trouble-free service, you need to follow a proper aluminium window maintenance schedule. Regular maintenance keeps them shining bright for years. It prevents costly repairs and ensures smooth operation.

But have you ever given a thought to the right way you can do it? This guide is just for you!

Why Aluminium Window Maintenance Matters?

We have always heard that aluminium is low-maintenance. So, why do you really need to care so much about it?

Well, we have always said that aluminium is low maintenance. We have never said that aluminium requires no maintenance. Just like every other installation, aluminium too needs proper and regular maintenance.

If you are in Hyderabad, the climate here can be quite a concern. Dust, dirt, and grime can build up over the years and make the surface quite untidy. Seasonal rains and pollution can add to the challenge.

If unchecked, and if you ignore the proper window cleaning tips, your windows will lose their finish. This can also affect the ease with which your windows open and close.

Like we already said, aluminium windows are an investment. Regular cleaning protects your investment. It will help you maintain the sleek appearance that you have always loved about your windows.

How often should you clean aluminium windows and doors?

The cleaning schedule should ideally be dependent on the location you are in. In the case of Hyderabadi homes, we would say you should clean your aluminium windows at least twice a year.

If you belong to high-pollution areas within the city, it should be done more frequently. Experts in home improvement in Hyderabad recommend cleaning it every month or at least once every two months.

In the case of coastal homes and offices, the frequency should ideally be once every month. The key is to clean the windows and doors before the dust or dirt settles in. As in the case of health concerns, prevention is better than a cure. It holds true in the case of windows and doors as well.

Special aluminium care in the Hyderabad climate

The climate in Hyderabad can be a special case. It is a unique region that experiences hot summers, monsoons, and pollution.

Here are a few tips for optimum care that should come in handy.

Summer cleaning tips

• Clean windows before and after the monsoon
• Check that the drainage holes are clear
• Inspect seals for water damage
• Wipe frames after heavy rain

Pollution protection tips

• Increase cleaning frequency in high-traffic areas
• Rinse frames weekly during peak pollution
• Use protective coatings for long-term defence

A quick maintenance checklist you can follow

A proper aluminium care guide would be to follow an appropriate checklist. You can prepare a checklist for cleaning based on your location and local climate.

However, to help you make a beginning, the following checklist may be helpful –

Every 3-6 months:

• Clean frames and glass
• Wipe down tracks
• Clear drainage holes

Twice yearly:

• Lubricate all moving parts
• Check weatherstripping
• Inspect for damage or oxidation

Annually:

• Apply protective coating or polish
• Deep clean all components
• Professional inspection if needed

A few mistakes to avoid

Of course, it is quite essential and important to follow a regular maintenance schedule for your aluminium windows and doors.

But, while doing so, it is equally essential to avoid a few mistakes.

• Don’t use harsh chemicals for cleaning. Acids and alkaline cleaners damage protective coatings.
• Don’t use abrasive tools. Steel wool and rough pads can scratch the surface.
• Don’t pressure wash the aluminium windows and doors. High pressure forces water into seals and damages finishes. It can also damage the sliding or opening mechanism.
• Don’t let soap dry on frames. It leaves residue and streaks. This residue may not be easy to remove once it settles down.
• Don’t ignore early damage. Small problems become expensive repairs. Fix it immediately or consult your fabricator immediately.
